Voters across New Jersey went to the polls on June 10 to cast their ballots in the 2025 primary elections. On the ballot were Democratic and Republican nominees for Governor and candidates for local offices and the State Assembly.

Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) secured the Democratic nomination for governor in a competitive race that included Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, NJEA President Sean Spiller, Congressman Josh Gottheimer, former State Senate President Steve Sweeney, and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka.

Former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli won the Republican nomination for governor, defeating radio host Bill Spadea, State Senator Jon Bramnick, Mario Kranjac, and Justin Barbera. This marks Ciattarelli’s third bid for governor; he previously secured the Republican nomination in 2021 and came within three points of unseating Governor Phil Murphy.

Sherrill and Ciattarelli spoke to Greater Atlantic City Chamber members in late 2024, offering the business community a valuable opportunity to engage directly with the candidates.

In Atlantic County, Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small won the Democratic nomination for re-election. He will face Republican nominee Nadeem Ahmed Khan, who ran unopposed in the GOP primary, in the November general election. Additionally, Democrats in Atlantic County will have to wait until the mail-in ballots are counted to know who will join Maureen Rowan as a candidate for Assembly in the 2nd legislative district. Republican incumbents, Assemblyman Don Guardian (R-Atlantic City) and Assemblywoman Claire Swift (R-Margate), are running for re-election.

The 2025 General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 4, determining New Jersey’s next governor, legislators, and local officeholders.
