Legislative Update & Panel Discussion
On Wednesday, July 29, the Greater Atlantic City Chamber hosted business leaders, community advocates, and elected officials at The Carriage House in Galloway for our Policy Impact Series: District 2 & District 8 Panel Discussion.
The event delivered an engaging, transparent, and high-energy dialogue focused on the key legislative issues directly impacting Atlantic County and the broader South Jersey region. Attendees left the luncheon energized by the collaborative spirit of our state representatives and optimistic about the economic future of our community.
Key Discussion Highlights & Takeaways
The panel was moderated by Alyssa Maurice, Assistant Director of the Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton University, who guided the conversation through several timely and critical topics:
- North Jersey Casino Expansion: Panelists evaluated the economic implications of potential casino expansion in North Jersey and underscored the necessity of protecting Atlantic City’s economic engine and South Jersey’s regional tourism industry.
- Community Development Corporations (CDCs): The group explored how CDCs can drive targeted downtown redevelopment and neighborhood revitalization, discussing strategies to scale successful models across other municipalities in Atlantic County.
- Film Tax Credits & Investment: The discussion highlighted how New Jersey’s expanding film tax incentive program is positioning the region as a hot spot for film and media production, driving job creation and local business revenue.
- Support for the Agricultural Community: Addressing the state of emergency facing New Jersey farmers, the assembly members discussed immediate and long-term advocacy efforts to protect the state’s agricultural infrastructure.
