The Atlantic City Airshow, one of 10 winners selected to receive a 2009
Governor’s Tourism Award, was honored during the Opening Session of the
Governor’s Conference on Tourism, April 1-3 at Trump Marina Casino Hotel.
"The Governor’s Tourism Awards honor the diverse individuals and
organizations that have contributed to the experience of our visitors and
the quality of life of our residents while promoting economic development
through increased tourism expenditures," said Secretary of State Nina
Mitchell Wells. "By encouraging travelers to select New Jersey as
their destination of choice, our industry is investing in our state’s
future."
"Since its inception in 2003, the Atlantic City Airshow has become the
largest mid-week airshow on the East Coast. It is designed to attract
visitors to Atlantic City mid-week during daytime hours to maximize
visitation and minimize any detriment it may have on rush hour traffic
within the city," said Greater Atlantic City Chamber President Joseph
Kelly, who heads the airshow committee and organizes the event each year.
"More and more, people are discovering that Atlantic City is a full
destination resort complete with diverse entertainment options that appeal
to all visitors," said Jeffrey Vasser, president of the ACCVA.
"The Atlantic City Airshow has become the signature summer event for
Atlantic City."
The Atlantic City Airshow "Thunder over the Boardwalk" is
presented by Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. It is a community partnership
between the Greater Atlantic City Chamber; the 177th Fighter Wing of the
N.J. Air National Guard; South Jersey Transportation Authority; FAA William
J. Hughes Tech Center; David Schultz Airshows, LLC; the City of Atlantic
City; and the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority. While the
Atlantic City Airshow takes place over the beach and Boardwalk in Atlantic
City, all airshow performers take off and land via the Atlantic City
International Airport.
This year’s airshow, again presented by Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa,
will take place on Wednesday, August 19, from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Many sponsorship packages and volunteer opportunities are available. Those
interested in becoming a sponsor should contact Greater Atlantic City
Chamber Director of Member Events Elisa Monroe at 609-345-4524, ext. 12.
