Local Attorneys Volunteer for "Wills for Heroes"

Jeffrey R. Lindsay, Chairman of the Young Lawyers Committee of the Cape May County Bar Association, and more than 20 area attorneys had a full schedule of appointments in their "Wills for Heroes" Sat. Aug. 15. The event ran from 10:00 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Cape May County Public Safety Training Center, 173 Crest Haven Rd., Cape May Court House.

Wills For Heroes is a national nonprofit organization created after September 11, 2001, when thousands of first responders risked their lives, and more than 400 firefighters and police officers died. Recognizing that many first responders do not have estate plans, Wills For Heroes and volunteer attorneys from across the country have been providing free legal estate-planning services to our country’s police, fire, paramedic, correction and probation officer personnel. Since its inception, Wills for Heroes has provided more than 10,000 wills for police, fire and paramedics in ten different states.

This was the third Wills for Heroes event to be held in New Jersey. The law offices of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP, donated the computers and printers to bring the Wills For Heroes Foundation to Cape May County. More than 20 attorneys will donate their time and expertise.

"The support this event received from Cape May County officials and the Cape May County Bar Association and its attorneys has been overwhelming," said Lindsay. "All of the 50 appointments available for this event were pre-filled by first responders from Cape May County," he added.

"We are very proud of Jeff and his role with the Cape May County Bar Association Young Lawyers Committee," said Kenneth J. Calemmo, Jr., Chief Operating Officer of Cooper Levenson. "Just the fact that he and other members of the Cape May County Bar Association donated their summer Saturday to make a difference in the lives of Cape May County’s first responders says volumes about their commitment to community," he added.
