The Chair's Council membership continues to grow and now numbers 33.  Our goal for 2009 is 40 members, which will provide us with the resources we need to maintain an aggressive advocacy effort.

Legislative Update

  • Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA)

    The Chamber Board passed a resolution in opposition to the EFCA. The Chamber has also communicated via email with membership about this issue and provided them with a link to convey their position on the issue to their United States Senators and Congressman.

  • NJ Senate Bills S2519 and S1987

    S2519 is a package of bills that removes certain unnecessary provisions of the Casino Control Act that inhibit growth and efficiency in the industry. S1987 allows for casino employees to run for public office in Atlantic City. Both bills were supported by the Chamber and have now been signed into law.

    Events

  • April 2 Major Public Construction Projects Breakfast Forum


  • This event was presented by the Atlantic County Economic Development Advisory Commission and the Greater Atlantic City Chamber and was held in front of an overflow crowd at the Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point. Atlantic County will experience more than $500 million in publicly funded construction in 2009.

  • New Carrier at AC International

    Governor Jon Corzine and SJTA officials announced on March 24 that AirTran Airways will begin service between ACY, Atlanta and Orlando, beginning June 11.

  • Subcommittee Formed to Address Expansion of Air Service

    The Chamber’s Business Advocacy Committee has agreed to establish a subcommittee to address ways in which the Chamber can support efforts to expand air service in and out of AC International. Subcommittee to be chaired by Sharon Gordon.

  • Chamber Statement on American Recovery and Investment Act Relating to the Casino Industry

    Chamber chair-elect Ken Calemmo recently addressed a press conference conducted by Congressman Frank Lobiondo on how a misguided interpretation of the American Recovery and Investment Act is having an “anti-stimulus” effect on the casino industry.

  • Chairman Gallagher Congratulates SJTA and Atlantic City International Airport Expansion Coalition

    In a letter to the editor that appeared in April 5 edition of The Press of Atlantic City, Chamber Chairman Paul Gallagher congratulated SJTA and the Atlantic City International Airport’s expansion coalition on the announcement of AirTran as a new carrier at ACY.
