Oppose the Employee Free Choice Act….Proposed federal legislation hurts employers and employees.
The Greater Atlantic City Chamber urges your opposition to the so-called "Employee Free Choice Act," otherwise known as card check legislation that has been introduced in the 111th Congress. This legislative initiative, introduced in both the House and Senate, would take privacy, power and voice away from America's working people and replaces it with a scheme called card check that will bring coercion and abuse into the democratic process. Today, the most common method for determining whether or not employees want a union to represent them is a private ballot election overseen by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The NLRB provides detailed procedures that ensure a fair election, free from fraud and coercion, where employees may cast their vote confidentially without peer pressure or unfair pressure from unions or employers. But the card check legislation would change that and essentially strip away a worker's right to a federally supervised private ballot election during union organizing drives.
The only way to guarantee worker protection from coercion and intimidation is through the continued use of the federal supervised private ballot election so that personal decisions about whether to join a union remain private.
Please oppose the card check legislation and protect the rights of both employers and employees.
