Legislative Update

Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA)
The Chamber Board passed a resolution in opposition to the EFCA.
The Chamber has also communicated via email with membership about this issue and
provided them with a link to convey their position on the issue to their United
States Senators and Congressman.

S2485 (Lesniak D/20, Bateman D/16) Modifying COAH
After passing the Senate with a vote of 36-0-0 in March, S2485 has swung
over to the NJ General Assembly and has been referred to the Assembly Housing
and Local Government Committee as A3738.

- CRDA CREATES PLANNING FUND FOR MUNICIPALITIES
The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority Board today approved South Jersey
Transportation and Land Use Program as follow-up to the release of the Atlantic City
Regional Transportation Plan (ACRTP) at the recent South Jersey Economic Development
Forum.

- AC Regional Transportation Plan
The $3.6 million plan, spearheaded by the Casino Reinvestment Development
Authority, encompasses infrastructure improvements involving highways, air
service, parking and rail service.

- Railway Expansion Plan Would Create Link with AC International Airport
State agencies have announced plans to expand service on NJ Transit’s
Atlantic City Line, adding more trains and stops, and creating a direct link
with AC International Airport.

SBA Launches New ARC Loan Program to Help Struggling Businesses
The American Recovery and Investment Act of 2009 directed the Small
Business Administration to create the America’s Recovery Capital loan program.
This program offers deferred-payment loans of up to $35,000 to viable small
businesses that need help making payments on an existing, qualifying loans for
up to six months. Repayment does not begin until 12 months after the loan is
fully disbursed and the loans are interest free. The SBA will begin
guaranteeing these loans on June 15th.

- Assembly Republicans Reveal Results of "Budget Ballot"
Forty-three percent of the taxpayers who took advantage of an opportunity
offered by Assembly Republican legislators to cast a "budget ballot" say
controlling state spending is the most important issue facing New Jersey.
Another 37.6 percent said easing the burden of high property taxes should
be the top priority.
