Chairman's Message

Chairman Kenneth J. Calemmo, Jr.

As I begin my tenure as Chairman of the Chamber, I’d like to thank Paul Gallagher, Vice President and General Counsel/Atlantic County Utilities Authority for his exceptional leadership during the past two years. With Paul’s guidance and direction, the merger of the Mainland and Atlantic City Chambers has evolved into the efficient and effective organization that was envisioned by Vince Bruno and Barbara Lang, the respective past chairs of those two Chambers. The chamber now boasts a membership list of over 600 businesses and organizations. Paul also was the catalyst for the Chair’s Council, which has brought together leading business organizations throughout our region that will enable the Chamber to become a stronger advocate for our members.

What I appreciate most about Paul has been his respect for and interest in individual Chamber members. Everyone is always welcome, and their input on issues important to the chamber are truly valued. Our Chamber is a better organization as a result of his leadership, and I am proud to follow in his footsteps.

Although we are living in strange and challenging times - as I look at our board of directors and speak with our membership, I see a great group of individuals through whose leadership will support and help expand the gaming industry and all its offerings. I watch our city now offering expanded retail, entertainment, night life and eateries; Atlantic Cape Community College and Richard Stockton College seeing sizable growth in enrollment and major expansion of facilities; and at a recent economic forum, in partnership between Atlantic County Government and the Chamber, close to $1 billion in projects announced for our region.

Unfortunately, we are not close to full economic recovery. It will take efforts by all of us to continue to move our community forward and it is the Chamber that can be the vehicle for change.

Here’s how each of you can help:

  • Get involved, stay involved and do not be shy. Come meet your fellow members at the next mixer – it’s free and it’s fun.
  • Buy local. Give your fellow chamber members a chance at your business.
  • Give your input. If you have ideas, concerns, or issues, please get that message out. Call Joe Kelly or Chamber staff or you can always email me at kcalemmo@cooperlevenson.com or call me at 609-572-7500.
  • Talk to your government leaders about issues that are important to all of us.
  • And, help expand the base. Please bring interested new members to our chamber.

I look forward to continue to work with Paul Gallagher, our Board, the Executive Committee and the Chamber staff as we continue to serve the interests of our members. Thanks to all of the members for your support of the Chamber as we work to build a healthy environment for business in our community.

My best,
