Two local Realtors have come up with an innovative way for newlyweds to buy their first home. While most people get excited about planning the wedding and the honeymoon, few people take the time to plan their financial future together. They have created HomeWeddingRegistry.com., a wedding gift registry where friends and family gift the down payment for their first home together. This was the brain child of Sherry Whiteside, who before becoming a Realtor was a wedding and event planner. “I can’t think of a better use for that wedding gift money than to buy your first home” says Sherry. The program offers a free consultation to make sure the wedding couple knows how much a home would cost them a month, what they can buy for their money, and to determine their down payment goal. “The wedding guests can give with the confidence of knowing that the couple has already met with real estate and mortgage professionals to make sure their goals are reasonable and realistic” says Susan.
“Most people are surprised at how little money down it takes to purchase a home.” Once the engaged couple have had their consultation, their picture and wedding date are placed on HomeWeddingRegistry.com. The website is designed for the convenience of the wedding guests to use a credit card to gift monies into the couples’ own savings account set up at a local bank. The guests can then print out a certificate to place into the wedding card. “This is the total package of home buying for newlyweds” says Sherry. “It’s our way of giving back to the community.” Susan, a long time realtor in Atlantic County remarked, “It’s so rewarding seeing a young couple purchase their first home.
