A Message from the Chair
...
Suddenly, it is Spring.
After spending all winter waiting for it to get
cold or to snow, as I walked out of the Atlantic 10 basketball
championships last month it was time to move the clock ahead and to
prune the forsythia. I don’t even have my beach badges yet.
But not everything is coming up roses. Paid
Family Leave, the controversial measure which has invigorated the
business community’s advocacy efforts not just here but statewide
will soon be Law. In a year where the budget is a debacle, where
everyone agrees that the only state with a less favorable business
climate is Louisiana, and where a recession has either begun, is
beginning, or will commence tomorrow…this was no time to add injury
(and it will hurt), to insult.
After a great turnout for a great
program on Real Estate just last month, the next few weeks will see
an economic summit on the 30th anniversary of the casino
industry and a morning roundtable discussion on the business
perspective of Bader Field development. The Economic Summit will be
at Atlantic Cape Community College on April 25th and is
an all day event, while the conversation on Bader Field will be at
the Convention Center on the morning of May 8th.
Tucker’s in Somers Point was a
great success after work on April 8th .We hope to see you
for breakfast at Mays Landing County Club on April 23rd.
At breakfast, our new Assemblyman Vince Polistina will let us know
about his first hundred days in Trenton, including his vote
against the Paid Family Leave Act in the Assembly.
Remember to renew your membership
and invite a friend to join. (Wait until you see what Susan
Schneider and her committee are putting together in a members
benefit program). We return to Atlantic City Country Club for our
golf outing on May 29 and be sure to circle August 20th,
the date of this years’ fabulous air show. Congrats to Jeff Vasser
and the ACCVA crew for a great show with the Atlantic 10 and to our
own Joe Kelly, honored by the United Way for all that he does for
our community.
And wait until you see what the CDC
is up to.
